The Bible has been translated into more than 2000 languages, and far many more dialects! Consider the number of English language bibles alone! What should we look for in a Bible? We should look for good scholarship on the part of the translating team, good study notes, and good overall readability. As discussed in class, the King James Version may hold a warm place in our hearts, but it doesn't speak our language in the 21st century!

Here are some good bibles on line:

  1. The New American Bible - The NAB is a great study Bible coming out of Roman Catholic Scholarship. The US Conference of Bishops hosts it on the web.

  2. The New English Translation - The NET Bible is another excellent study Bible, with good solid scholarship behind it.

  3. The New Revised Standard Version - The NRSV is the version used in the Sunday Lectionary.
