Liturgy
We celebrate a rich liturgical tradition in the Lutheran Church. We often refer to the "Order of Service," which is part of what the Liturgy is. The word itself comes from a Greek root meaning "the work of the people." In essence, we praise and worship God through our works of music, art, poetry and prose.
Just as there is an order to every
Sunday's service, there are divisions in the church year. The two major
divisions of the year are the festival season, from Advent through Whitsunday,
and the non-festival season, from Trinity Sunday to Christ the King. The chart
below indicates what's happening (click on each observance for more
information), and the color used in the vestments of the church during that
time.
